After hearing today about the enormous expenses incurred by the House delegation to Copenhagen, I have a few suggestions to reel in Budget Expenses.
TERM LIMITS- For both Senators and Representatives
STAFF ALLOWANCE- Reduce Congressional Staff Allowance by 50%
CONGRESSIONAL PAY- Reduce Congressional pay by 10% and tie pay to performance by placing pay increases on the ballot every four years, nothing is automatic.
LEGISLATIVE SESSIONS- Eliminate the outdated need for shortened work weeks or extended recesses. Work fulltime, for a change!
FEDERAL EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT SYSTEM- Eliminate your special treatment, merge it into Social Security and abide by your legislated retirement package.
FARM SUBSIDIES- Stop paying farmers NOT to grow.
INCOME TAX/ IRS- Establish a Value Added Tax in place of, not in addition to Income Tax and eliminate the IRS.
CONGRESSIONAL JUNKETS-Although I see NO reason for these mini-vacations forPublic Servants on MY dime, require Congressmen to pay for staff expenses out of their Staff Expense Budget. If spouses or children want to attend, that expense should be paid out of the Congressmen’s own pocket!
The American Taxpayer should not be required to foot the bill for every Congressional whim.
